World Flying Disc Federation and Mediterranean Flying Disc Confederation sign historic Memorandum of Understanding in Rome

Rome, Italy, — In a landmark moment for the global Flying Disc community, the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and the Mediterranean Flying Disc Confederation (MFDC) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), setting the stage for enhanced collaboration, regional development in the Mediterranean and shared strategic goals in Flying Disc sports.

The signing ceremony took place on 14 June 2025 in Rome (Italy) on the occasion of the Jubilee of Sport 2025 in the Vatican City, underscoring the significance of Mediterranean sport cooperation in the international growth of Flying Disc sports. The MoU was signed by Volker Bernardi, Secretary General of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), and Salvatore Comis, acting President of the Mediterranean Flying Disc Federation (MFDC).
This historic agreement aims to:
Foster regional integration and development of Flying Disc sport disciplines across Mediterranean countries.
Promote the values of fair play, inclusion, and sustainability within the sport.
Facilitate technical and educational exchanges, including coaching, officiating, and event organization.
Support mutual participation in events, tournaments, and development programs.
Strengthen the pathway for Mediterranean nations to engage in WFDF-sanctioned competitions and governance.
Advancing the pathway for Flying Disc sports to be included in Mediterranean Games of the CIJM (International Mediterranean Games Committee).
Robert ‘Nob’ Rauch, having pre-signed the MoU, commented: “It is a great step forward signing this Memorandum with our associate member MFDC propelling our sport in the Mediterranean basin. Hopefully, our sport will make its path into the Mediterranean and Beach Games”.
Volker Bernardi, signing the MoU in Rome representing WFDF, stated: “Today’s signing marks a significant move towards a more unified and collaborative future for Flying Disc in the Mediterranean and beyond, serving as a template for other regions of the world. We believe this partnership will open new opportunities for athletes, officials, and communities throughout the region.”
Added Salvatore Comis, acting MFDC President: “The Mediterranean region, with its rich cultural heritage and sporting enthusiasm, is ready to take its place on the global stage of Flying Disc. This MoU is the foundation of a stronger, more connected future for our member nations and athletes. The MoU signifies a shared commitment to advancing the visibility, accessibility, and quality of flying disc sports in the Mediterranean basin, while aligning closely with the global strategic vision of the WFDF. This collaboration is expected to contribute to the long-term growth of the sport, laying the groundwork for future international competitions, youth development initiatives, and cultural exchange through sport”.
