His loss represents an immeasurable blow to the international flying disc community and to all who had the privilege of working with him.

Volker was a visionary leader and a true ambassador for our sport. Since joining WFDF in 2011 as its first full-time Executive Director, and later serving as Secretary General, he guided the federation with dedication, professionalism, and integrity. Under his stewardship, WFDF experienced remarkable growth: strengthening governance, promoting anti-doping programs, and fostering global development. His leadership also brought WFDF the milestone recognition by the International Olympic Committee and expanded its membership to 118 nations.

As a sports lawyer and experienced administrator, Volker’s career was marked by a lifelong commitment to the Olympic Movement and international sport. His influence reached well beyond WFDF, including his work with the International Canoe Federation, the German Squash Federation, and his role as a member of the Executive Committee of the International World Games Association. Everywhere, he earned deep respect for his wisdom, fairness, and vision.

The Mediterranean Flying Disc Confederation wishes to highlight Volker’s special attention to regional development. His encouragement and support were invaluable for emerging federations, including those in the Mediterranean basin, where his belief in inclusivity and cooperation helped inspire growth and unity.

On behalf of the MFDC, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Volker’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire WFDF community. We share in the grief of losing not only an esteemed leader, but also a dear friend and mentor.

His legacy will endure through the continued expansion of flying disc sports worldwide and through the values he so passionately defended: fairness, inclusivity, and the Spirit of the Game. The MFDC will honor his memory by carrying forward his mission of collaboration and growth in our region.
