The Flying Disc community has been invited to take part in an academic study soliciting views on Trans and Difference in Sex Development (DSD) athletes. Swansea University in the UK is conducting a research project to find out how elite athletes feel about Trans and DSD athletes competing in sports. The study is asking elite athletes that are currently or previously competing in the female division regardless of their gender identity or biological sex to participate in this research and complete a short 100% anonymous survey.
For competitive athletes competing in the women’s division, the survey can be found at: https://survey.swan.ac.uk/index.php/498692?lang=en
WFDF Women in Sport Commission chair Caroline “Caz” Malone said that “this is a great opportunity for members of the Disc Sports community to express their views and be part of an academic study to advise us with robust peer-reviewed research, following on from the IOC framework.”
The IOC had recently updated its guidance on the inclusion of Trans athletes and DSD athletes. The updated guidance takes a human rights approach to inclusion and allows the Governing Organization to determine its sports-specific inclusion policies and practices. The guidance also states that such policies and practices must be based on robust peer-reviewed research.
